A lot of people in numerous roles in the Ghanaian movie industry, both English Language and Akan, have
complained endlessly about the negative impact foreign soaps such as Kumkum Bhagya, and Veera are having on their growth.
These soaps are immensely popular and on free to air tv, therefore the argument is that support is provided to them in terms of sponsorship and viewership at the expense of the local movies/shows.
The Film Owners Association of Ghana (FIPAG) has thus announced plans to fight back against the popularity of
these shows. Executive Member Mr. Paul Agyei told Ashh Fm in an interview that the association is holding talks
with government which they hope would yield some concrete results in tackling the menace.
